Hello comrades.
This year, we are facing 1 May under the shadow of imperialist aggression and reactionary wars. As you all know, the attacks by Israel and the US against Iran have turned the Middle East into a hellish place. All these attacks are also coming back to haunt the peoples of the Middle East in the form of rising chauvinism, patriarchy and all manner of reactionary forces.
On the one hand, the imperialists are attempting to crush the people’s wars being waged in India and the Philippines under the leadership of communist parties, whilst on the other hand they are striving to neutralise the Palestinian National Resistance and the Kurdish National Movement in the Middle East. Whilst disarmament is being imposed on the masses, the imperialists are adding new weapons to their arsenals. The repercussions of all this are being felt most acutely in our country.
The Turkish working class and the oppressed are being subjected to even greater hunger and poverty. At the same time, gangs and mafias are preventing our people from living in safety in schools, hospitals and on the streets. The massacres that took place just a few days ago in Siverek and Maraş are directly linked to these state policies. Despite the disarmament policies being imposed on the working class and oppressed masses, imperialist alliances such as NATO are organising meetings to renew themselves. One such meeting is due to take place in our country in the coming months. We must all act in the spirit of anti-imperialist unity against the NATO summit to be held in Turkey and intensify the struggle against imperialist powers.
Whilst on the one hand we face the reality of women being murdered every day in our country, on the other hand we are being told about peace. The Turkish comprador bourgeoisie, rising on a patriarchal foundation, continues to protect those who murder women and children. At the same time, our country’s mountains, rocks, soil and water are being handed over to imperialist companies. Under the guise of a “Turkey free of terrorism”, Turkish chauvinism is being stoked and surrender is being imposed upon the Kurdish nation.
Led by Tayyip Erdoğan, representatives of the Turkish comprador bourgeoisie attack the LGBT+ community every time they open their mouths. Alevis and other oppressed faiths are being targeted for eradication through policies of Islamisation and Sunni-isation. And all of this is being called “peace and brotherhood”. Yet in reality, what is unfolding is not a peace process but, as the representatives of the Turkish comprador bourgeoisie themselves state, a policy of disarming the oppressed.
Whilst the Turkish working class struggles daily against hunger and poverty, it is also falling victim to murders committed in the workplace. Whilst some people’s pockets are being lined, the youth of the people face a bleak future. At various universities, particularly Hacettepe, fascist gangs are attacking the just struggle of the youth, and these gangs are being protected and further empowered by the police, the university administration and the state.
Those seeking justice are being thrown into prisons. In these prisons, our comrades are continuing their resistance by going on hunger strike. We salute our comrades once again from here, who are confronting the state’s attacks with the utmost determination despite having nothing in their hands.
This system of repression will not be able to stop the struggle of the Turkish working class and the oppressed. Fifty years ago, the Turkish working class painted Taksim red with great determination. As we mark this 1 May amidst such intense attacks, we call upon all our people—especially women, young people, the LGBT+ community, Kurds, Alevis, and those from oppressed ethnic and religious groups—as well as the peasants resisting for their land and the Turkish working class, to seize all 1 May venues this year with precisely this same determination.
We call upon all our people to organise and join the ranks of the people’s army along the red path charted by our leader İbrahim Kaypakkaya and his successors.
Happy May Day to you all, comrades!
Bijî Yek Gulan!
