PATNA, India -- Maoist rebels triggered a powerful land mine Saturday which killed 13 policemen in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, a top police official said.
Police superintendent G.K. Rath said at least two other policemen were injured in the explosion that blew up their minibus in Jharkhand state.
The officers were returning from a search operation in a remote, densely forested region when the blast occurred.
The Maoists are currently active in 20 of India's 28 states.
