S.O.L. STUDENTS’ BRUTALIZED BY ABVP GOONS DURING PROGRAM COMMEMORATING MARTYRS DAY!
FASCIST ATTACK AND TERRORIZING OF DU STUDENTS GROWS AS ABVP CONTINUES ITS ASSAULT ON THE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN CAMPUS!!
THREE BRUTALIZED S.O.L. ACTIVISTS TAKEN TO HINDURAO HOSPITAL
Today, ABVP goons in a shameful and cowardly vein attacked and brutalized S.O.L. students and KYS activists who had assembled at Arts Faculty to commemorate the martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. In an effort to undermine the S.O.L. students program, a large number of ABVP goons who have no connection to DU reached Arts Faculty in specially hired vans. Within minutes they started brutally beating up two S.O.L. activists and in an even more shameful act, manhandled two female S.O.L. activists who tried to stop them.
The S.O.L. students had gathered to keep up the spirit of struggle and to connect their ongoing movement for equal education with the visions of Bhagat Singh. It is to be noted that there has been a successful and persistent struggle of Delhi University’s S.O.L. students for more classes, enhanced S.O.L. centres and the incorporation of S.O.L. students into DU’s regular education mode. Under the banner of Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), students of S.O.L. have beenwaging a militant campaign for equal educational opportunities. They have in the recent past gheraoed HRD Ministry headed by Sh.Smriti Irani; protested at UGC head-office; protested at Delhi Secretariat; etc.
The S.O.L. students’ continuous movement and sharp criticism of the fact that ABVP-led DUSU has done nothing since they came to power to uphold the interests of S.O.L. students, as well as their criticism of the discriminatory education policies of the central government, has clearly ruffled feathers in the ruling party at the Centre. Seeing rising discontent of DU students, the ruling BJP government is clearly resorting to aggressive measures via their youth wing, ABVP, to suppress the freedom of speech and expression.Indeed, the presence of ABVP goons has proliferated in DU’s campus. ABVP’s efforts to spread terror and push anti-social elements on campus have grown significantly in the past few months. Recently ABVP activists have also threatened the theatre society of SGTB Khalsa College to stop staging their play.
Realizing the negative intentions of ABVP goons, the S.O.L. students refused to back down and continued with their cultural program. Activists from Manipur and Uttarakhand sang songs; SOL students performed street plays and even recited poems on Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Their cultural program continued into the afternoon. S.O.L. students ended their program with a protest rally that culminated at the DU metro station.
Meanwhile, the three S.O.L. activists who were attacked were taken for an MLC to Hindu Rao Hospital. A case is now being filed by the three activists at the Maurice Nagar thana.
