High Court notice to Maharashtra govt on Prof. Saibaba’s ill-health
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the State
government and police seeking report on the deteriorating health of
Delhi University professor G.N Saibaba, who was arrested last year for
his alleged links with Maoists. The division bench of Chief Justice
Mohit Shah and Justice A. K. Menon took suo motu notice of a news report
published in The Hindu dated June 8 on the worsening condition of the
professor. The court noted that he was suffering 90 per cent disability,
had other ailments and was not able to operate his wheelchair. The
Bench issued notices to the State Home department secretary,
Superintendent of the Nagpur Central Prison, Nagpur Police Commissioner
and the chief medical officer of the prison, and called for Mr.
Saibaba’s medical reports.
