Last
night, activist Ghassan Boughediri, a member of the Joint Action
Coordination Committee for Palestine and a member of the Tunisian and
Maghreb Committee of the Global Resistance Flotilla 1, was detained.
This followed his appearance this morning at the National Unit for
Investigating Multifaceted Financial Crimes in El Aouina to give his
statement in the investigations related to the financial aspects of the
Global Resistance Flotilla 1. The detention of Ghassan Boughediri, along
with Ghassan Henchiri, Wael Nouar, Jawhar Chenna, and Sanaa Msahli, in
addition to Mohamed Amine Bennour and Nabil Chennoufi, all members of
the Resistance Flotilla Committee, comes in the wake of the Public
Prosecutor's decision to open the aforementioned investigations last
Friday.
We, in the Joint Action Coordination Committee, wish to express the following:
-
Our condemnation of this new arbitrary detention of an activist known
for his honesty and integrity, especially since the investigations could
have continued with him and the other detainees while they were at
liberty. Without delving into the details of the investigation, nor the
financial matters previously clarified by the flotilla organizers, we
affirm, based on information we have received about the investigation's
progress, to our people and all supporters of Palestine in Tunisia, that
this is clearly a politically motivated attack disguised as a legal
pretext. All stages of preparing the Global Flotilla of Steadfastness 1
were carried out with the full knowledge and coordination of the
country's political authorities. Is there anyone in the country with any
sense who believes that the flotilla, and before it the Steadfastness
Convoy, could have set sail without a green light from the authorities?
The
fact that the Public Prosecutor's Office opened this investigation,
without any prior complaints, testimonies, or inquiries, confirms that
the case is purely political. It cannot be separated from the recent
shameful stances of the Tunisian authorities regarding the
American-Zionist aggression against Iran and Lebanon and the ongoing
genocidal war in Gaza. Nor should we forget how the security forces
recently prevented protests in front of the American embassy against the
kidnapping of Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, an act for
which the authorities didn't even bother to issue a statement condemning
it. - We reiterate our demand for the release of our comrades and the
cessation of the unjust prosecutions against all those included in the
investigations, and the closure of this malicious and flawed file
against the people of Tunisia and its rich history of supporting the
struggle of the Palestinian people and all Arab peoples and peoples
struggling against colonialism.
