We, the undersigned,To the Indian Government
To Government of State of Maharastra
condemn the abduction and illegal arrest of Prof. G.N. Saibaba, Professor at the Ramlal Anand College of Delhi University and joint secretary of the Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF), on 9th of May 2014.
For one year prof. Saibaba has suffered harassment and intimidation. In September 2013, his home was searched. Following this raid, in January 2014 a team of Police officers interrogated Saibaba at his house for over 5 hours.
Eight months later, shortly after his trip to Europe where he continued and propagated his complaints, he is abducted, arrested and transferred to another state with a secret operation.
His arrest, as that of the Uttarakhand President of RDF, Jeevan Chandra, occurred in similar circumstances few days before, and those of the student cultural activist Hem Mishra and the freelance journalist Prashant Rahi, tortured and detained for months in the central prison of Nagpur under specious charges, confirm that a plan of annihilation of all dissent among intellectuals and any opposition to state repression against people’s movements is going on in India. It is an intolerable witch-hunt.
Prof. Saibaba has 90% disability, he is wheelchair bound and needs treatment for heart disease. The fury and intimidation against him are a clear violation of his human rights.
For these reasons we condemn the illegal operation conducted by the police of Maharashtra as part of the plan to stifle all voices that take a stand against the injustice and oppression and in defense of the people’s struggle to eliminate them.
We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Prof. Saibaba, Jeevan Chandra, Hem Mishra, Prashant Rahi and we are committed to continue and intensify our mobilization until our demand will not be met.

Noi sottoscritti
