ABVP national executive council worried about Maoist influence on campuses
MANGALORE: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at the
conclusion of its four-day national executive council meeting on
Thursday has expressed concern at recent arrest of JNU student Hem
Mishra and the subsequent arrest of University of Delhi professor G N
Saibaba. This, the council contended is an indicator to prove that Left
winged extremists are running their activities in some educational
campuses under disguise.
Briefing reporters on the various resolutions adopted during the
course of the deliberations, Sreehari Borikar, national general
secretary of the Parishad said many organisations such as Democratic
Students’ Union, All India Student Association, Kabir Kala Manch and
many activists in the garb of students and teachers are actively
promoting naxal activities on the campuses. Central universities such as
JNU, DU are attracting students to naxalism.
Claiming that these central universities are instigating ‘young,
innocent students’ and linking them to with brutal and violent naxal
activities, he said this should be dealt with a high powered inquiry.
“The NEC has given a clarion call to its rank and file to ensure that
there are naxal free campuses,” Shreehari said, adding that the thrust
will be to expose such elements sympathetic to Left winged Maoist
movement on the campuses
