Outlawed ‘Maoists’ killed in Tangail - Purbo Banglar Communist Party
TANGAIL, April 07: Two alleged operatives of outlawed Maoist outfit Purbo Banglar Communist Party were killed overnight in a shootout with RAB at Baghil area of the sadar upazila of Tangail, officials said Thursday. “They (Maoists) used gunshots sensing our presence at the scene, forcing our men to retaliate . . . the two members of the outfit were found dead there after the gunfight,” RAB-12 company commander Mohiuddin Faruki told newsmen. He said the two members of the so-called ultra left group were identified as Fazlu Driver, 40, a leader of the outfit and his associate Uzzal, 35.
Faruki said the elite anti-crime unit of police raided the village bazaar around 1 Wednesday night acting on a tip off that Purbo Banglar Communist Party men was holding a secret meeting there. He said the gunfight continued for a few minutes and eventually the outlawed activists fled the scene leaving behind the bodies of their two fellows while RAB forces also seized a revolver and a pistol from the spot. Faruki said two RAB men also were wounded during the shootout, according to a news agency. – IH
