(Milind Baburao Telumbde, 1964-2021)
The history of the revolutionary communist movement in India is bloody in the blood of countless martyrs. From ordinary political activists to the top leadership of the Revolutionary Party — has continued to struggle against imperialism and their domestic lackeys by giving their lives equally. The people's war is progressing through their constant struggle and sacrifice. Today is the day of the martyrdom of a revolutionary whose life is on our path. On November 13, 2021, there was a fierce clash between the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) and the state's C-60 commando forces in the forests of the banks of the Garchiroli district on the Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border. On that day, Comrade Deepak alias Comrade Milind Babura, secretary of the Maharashtra-Chedra Pradesh-Chhattisgarh (MMC) Special Region Committee, was martyred on the battlefield. Despite the fact that the PLGA team, led by him, they fought to the last breath without surrendering for a long time. The mortar, grenades, automatic rifle fires were also carried out with the perfect tactics. He removed the injured companions and tried to protect the leadership. In the end, most guerrillas managed to escape safely with the help of local villagers, but 27 were martyred on the battlefield of the Revolutionary War. Among them was Comrade Deepak. Their martyrdom is not a defeat in the history of the revolutionary movement, but a great sacrifice in which the revolutionaries have remained unwavering until the last moment of their lives for the purpose of the protracted people's war and the new democratic revolution.
Uncovering the revolutionary spirit from the Dalit working family:
Milind was born on February 5th, 1964, in a village called Rajur in the Everamal district of Maharashtra. His father and mother Ansuya were poor day labourers. They converted to Buddhism by Babasaheb Ambedkar. He was against racialism and prejudice. His father was a socially conscious, mother was brave and compassionate. They provided shelter and food for political workers. Comrade Milind grew up in this struggling environment of the house. In his youth, he was inspired by the movements of Bhagat Singh, Ambedkar and Dalit Pantha. He later worked as an electrician in Western Coalfields (WCL). There witnessed the exploitation and oppression of the miners. This made him a close-up to the class. That's where his revolutionary politics began.
From the Labour leader to the revolutionary activist :
By 1984, Comrade Milind had come into contact with the CPI (ML) Jan War party. Within a short period of time, his organizational skills, courage and self-sacrifice made him one of the most important organizers of the party. As a young apprentice, he started his first work in the Dhopatola coal mine. The Nawajwan Bharat Sabha (NBS) was formed to raise the revolutionary spirit among the workers. Through this organization, he planted the ideals of class struggle among the young workers. They organized against low wages, unhealthy working conditions and the repressive policies of the owner. In February 1984, he actively participated in the promotion of the first conference of the indigenous Shetkari Shetamjdur organization held in Kamlapur, Garchiroli. The bloody attack was carried out by the state forces. Which leaves a deep and lasting impression on his life, inspires him to move forward on a revolutionary path more firmly. During this time, he played an important role in the formation of Akhil Maharashtra Kamgar Union (AMKU). Later, a group of unorganized workers brought together a fighter movement. At the same time, he led the WCL Majdur organization to new heights of the mining workers' movement. In 1988, he led a historic three-month strike of five thousand temporary workers at the Khaparkhera Thermal Unit in Nagpur. In the face of horrific repression and brutal police oppression, the workers from organizing and finally the fruits of their struggles. He was arrested after a police raid on May Day. He was jailed for three months. After his release, he continued to work under the name ‘Kolka’. He was elected Union Secretary of Wardha region. The following year, the administration was forced to return to work under pressure from the workers' unified movement. This remarkable victory of the labour movement became recognition of his successful leadership.
During this time, he was elected president of the NBS. He then organized the slums in Mumbai and the poor youth of Vidarbha. Under his leadership, the Nawawan Bharat Sabha became a political institution not only for the workers' movement, but also for the youth of the entire generation. He believed that the criminal group of the most marginalized, neglected part of the society, could also be organized through revolutionary politics. The real example of his belief is that Nagesh, a notorious thug in charge of breaking the strike for the miners, is a notorious thug. He met him personally, negotiated and politicized him and became an active member of the NBS. This experience of the labour movement and the deep bond between the people quickly promoted him to the full-time member of the party. By 1992, he began working as a revolutionary activist of the party. He created a strong organizational foundation by adding the ongoing class struggle in both the city and the village.
Political Stiffness:
He took a political position even during the party's internal crisis. When the central committee collapsed during the party's internal conflict in 1985-87, he took a firm stand to abide by the path of protracting people's war as the only way of revolution. He fought fearlessly against the left-wing and right opportunist tendencies within the party. He was elected to the Maharashtra State Committee at the Third State Conference held in 2000. He played an important role in adopting a strategic effort to connect the urban workers’ movement with the armed peasant struggle in the Punishment region. He revived the movement in Nagpur, Chandrapur and Wardha regions. He led the campaign of ‘Colo in the village’ of the revolutionary student organisations and continued to work in the face of the state’s suppression ‘Operation Mortyanjay’. Comrade Milind's role as one of the organizers of the Mumbai Resistance (MR 2004) was also remembered. MR was developed as an alternative to the World Social Forums created by imperialist forces. Milind organized hundreds of volunteers and led the unveiling of the mask of imperialism.
His theoretical work is particularly important in the nation. He studied Maoist politics and realized the limitations of Ambedkarism. He made it clear that it is not possible to eliminate caste or color-based exploitation without a revolution. He showed in his analysis that the semi-colonial semi-feudal system based on the rotten nation is the root of nation-based oppression, the solution of which is only the new democratic revolution. He led the Dalit movement against the destruction of statues of Ambedkar in Rambainagar in 1979 and the post-Khairlanji Genocide Dalit movement in 2006. Under his leadership, an important booklet was published on the agricultural crisis and farmer suicide. He also started studying the environmental crisis in the need of the central committee. The revolutionary movement in Maharashtra suffered huge losses after 2007. Many important leaders were arrested, almost the Southwest Regional Bureau collapsed. Comrade Milind's life partner, Comrade Angela, was arrested. In such a situation, he almost maintained the organization's own. He revived the revolutionary movement in the swimming opposite the stream. He defended the party in 2008 by expelling a spy member from the party through political struggle.
He was included in the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Party in 2013. In 2017, he took over as the MMC Special Zonal Committee. Under his leadership, more than twenty-five anti-excavation movements were organized in Gadchiroli. There, he organized the villages under the PESA Act and gave instructions for the formation of hunger, protest and demographics.
He strongly criticized Kobad Gandhi’s opportunistic and reactionary stance as a “fractured freedom” book of “Fractured Freedom” and made the theoretical draft of the Central Committee against him.
Organizer and cultural warriors:
Just as comrade Deepak was a skilled organizer, he was a talented thinker and artist. He regularly studied Marxist literature, as well as writing analytical documents on various topics. His songs and poems written under the pseudonym ‘Jallamukhi’ are still sung at the revolutionary party. His voice was sworn in. He used to say, “The revolutionary art should be something that gives the exploited strength, and the absorber indicates his downfall.” He was a true people's leader, all in all, his love for fellow warriors, humor and humanity. From the punishment to the industrial area of the city, the footprint of comrade Deepak is a symbol of resistance.
Why Comrade Deepak is still relevant today:
After his martyrdom, the state and corporate media tried to tarnish him by accusing him of other fake conspiracy, including the Bhima Koregaon case. In fact, Comrade Deepak was a real leader, a tireless revolutionary who dedicated his life to the fight for the liberation of the exploited. Today, when the persecution of Brahminist Hindutva fascism, corporate looting and caste-sex-based exploitation across the country, the struggle of comrade Deepak reminds us that the only way for the liberation of the people is the revolutionary struggle. But now it seems that some leadership has also walked the path of extreme betrayal from within the revolutionary movement. Their entire platoon, including Venugopal and Rupesh, has surrendered to one of the former central committee leaders. They have given the weapons of the people to the fascist state. Some of them have also joined the parliamentary politics. They have abandoned the revolutionary struggle in the name of showing the “new path”. This compromise is dangerous. Because it works for the interest of the people, not for the sake of the people. They have denied the fundamental fact that the theory of social change can be implemented not only in speech, but through armed-organized struggles. In this situation, the life and martyrdom of Comrade Deepak is a guide. Not only against the ruling class, but also against compromise and surrender. Comrade Deepak has shown us with his life that the fires of the class struggle that the revolutionaries of the people, the people's party, and the state suppression cannot extinguish him.
