Bangladesh - Outlawed leader killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’


An outlawed leader of the Purba Bangla Communist Party was killed in a “gunfight” with police in the Chatiyantala area under Fotullah upazila in Khulna late on Monday night. The deceased was one Touhidul Islam Shobuj, 28, son of Selim Sheikh of Jamir village under the upazila. He was a leader of Purba Bangla Communist Party (ML). Khulna Assistant Police Super (B Circle) Abdul Qader Beg told journalists that Shobuj was an enlisted criminal. He said: “Acting on a tip-off, police arrested him from Damodar village under Fotullah upazila on Monday evening.”
