MAO DAY: Five Maoist parties hit out at each other
KATHMANDU: Five different Maoist parties today celebrated the birth anniversary of Chinese Leader Mao at four different places and criticised each other. The CPN-Maoist, which waged a decade-long ‘people’s war’ following the path of Mao, is now split into five different parties — Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led Unified CPN-Maoist, Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist, Mani Thapa-led Revolutionary Communist Party, Matrika Yadav-led CPN (Maoist) and Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist.
Recently formed CPN Maoist today organised a mass demonstration at Khula Manch where party convener Netra Bikram Chand warned of another armed struggle if the achievements of the Maoist movement were not institutionalised. While addressing the function at party headquarters in Paris Danda today, UCPN-M Chair Dahal said the strategy of long-term armed struggle would be futile in Nepal in present context. Dahal, hinting at Chand’s warning to take up arms if necessary, said all Maoist forces must unite to achieve their common goal.
He further said the counter-revolutionary forces were successful at dividing the unified Maoist force into many parties so as to obliterate them. Meanwhile, at Khula Manch, Chand said UCPN-M Chair Dahal, senior leader Baburam Bhattarai and CPN-Maoist leaders, including Mohan Baidhya, had deviated from the revolutionary path and therefore he had to rise to the challenge. “People had sent them (leaders) as commanders but they have turned into jokers and billionaires,” he said. He, however, said his party was for peace and consensus, and pledged to work for the same. On the other hand, Baidhya-led CPN-M today held its first national conference at Om Sai Party Palace in Old Baneshwor. Baidhya vented his ire at Chand for splitting the party. He said Chand was truly a rightist opportunist in the guise of a Marxist. The remaining RCP and CPN (Maoist) leaders along with Unified CPN-Maoist General Secretary Krishna Bahadur Mahara marked the Mao Day organising a seminar at Sambad Dabali today.
CPN-Maoist’s national meet begins
KATHMANDU, Dec 26: The first national gathering of the Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist has kicked off in the capital city on Friday. The national gathering is expected to chart out the party action plans after the split of a team led by Netra Bikram Chand in the party. At the gathering, Chairman Mohan Baidhya has tabled a 26-page political document on contemporary political development. Addressing the cadres, Baidhya urged the party cadres and leaders not to be disheartened by the party split. “Chand´s exit splitting the party is to destabilize the revolution not to complete it,” Baidhya criticized.
Baidhya was of the view that Chand has exhibited himself as a power-hungry figure by proposing for power sharing in the name of talks prior to agitation. On a separate context, Chairman Baidhya said that the party would take to the street from January 9 to pile pressure on parties for constitution writing from an all-party conference. Some 800 representatives and observers are participating in the gathering that would conclude on December 29. RSS
