The people of Kashmir have been without democratic rights for over two
months now. Thousands are under house arrest or in the prison, including
hundreds of young people. The ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party
(Indian Peoples' Partry) and its armed volunteers,
the Rastriya Sayangsevak Sangha, with their philosophy of Hindutva,
political Hinduism, are on the road to fascism.
The trend of Hindu nationalism has existed in India's political movement
since 1905 when the modern struggle fior independence started, often in
disguise of Indian nationalism. The second incipient democratic
revolution, which started in the early nineteenth
century in Bengal, failed to develop, (like the first one at the end of the Moghul period) as the democratic forces were too weak to unite with the peasantry
and defeat the nexus of colonialism and feudalism.
The recent resolution of the Labour Party on Kashmir is highly
encouraging. But passing a resolution is only the beginning. Kashmiris
need actions of solidarity with their struggle for freedom. They are a
nation in their own rights, they have the right to self-determination.
LET KASHMIRIS DECIDE THEIR OWN FUTURE!
LET US ORGANISE ACTIONS OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE OPPRESSED PEOPLE OF KASHMIR!!
